  • Paua Jewellery Care

Paua shell is high quality nacre, the same material as pearls. DO NOT use chemical cleaning dips, as these can eat into the natural shell. Gentel polishing with silver polish or a silver polishing cloth will restore the lustre and shine.  Rei Jewellery Ltd.

  • What is Paua?

Paua is a species of abalone (Haliotis iris), with a very special shell. Paua The Gift of the God of the Sea. Paua is unique to New Zealand. The most colourful species of Abalone. Regarded by New Zealanders past and present as a taonga or treasure. Maori legend has it that paua was a special gift from Tangaroa, the God of the Sea.

Rei Jewellery exclusively uses gem quality, natural paua shell when creating our designs.

Each piece captures a unique essence of New Zealand.

  • The Designer Ray Fransham

This piece, like all our jewellery, is a design of my creation  - Ray Fransham
The unfurling fern frond is at the core of the design, with its ideas of growth and new beginnings. Wrapped in a circle that references the sea and the way it encircles our islands.
But the design should be about what you see in it, and the emotions you find in it. Passing this on to ..... will give the piece true meaning.
